Bowling Green, Kentucky – Three football players from Western Kentucky University (WKU) have signed contracts with National Football League (NFL) teams as undrafted free agents following the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft. Linebacker Kylan Guidry has joined the Los Angeles Chargers, wide receiver Kisean Johnson has signed with the Baltimore Ravens, and running back Elijah Young has landed with the Kansas City Chiefs.

In addition to the three undrafted free agents, defensive back Upton Stout was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the draft. This achievement marks Stout as the fifth WKU player to be drafted in the last four years, highlighting the program’s continued success in developing talent for the NFL.

Remarkably, WKU has maintained a consistent track record, as it is the only non-Power Conference program to have produced a player drafted in the first three rounds in each of the last four NFL drafts. This showcases the program’s ability to compete at a high level despite not being part of a major conference.

Kylan Guidry’s College Journey

Kylan Guidry played the last three seasons at WKU after transferring from Kilgore Junior College. During the 2024 season, Guidry participated in 13 games where he recorded 45 tackles, including seven tackles for loss and three sacks. He also managed to force a fumble and broke up a pass during that season, although he missed one game due to injury.

In 2023, Guidry led his team with a total of 54 tackles, demonstrating his defensive prowess by also making six tackles for loss and three sacks over another 13-game season.

Kisean Johnson’s Impact

Kisean Johnson’s stint at WKU was shorter as he played just one season after transferring from Alabama State. Nonetheless, his impact was significant; he was named to the All-Conference USA Second Team Offense after leading WKU in receiving with 925 yards and scoring seven touchdowns on 75 receptions. Johnson started all 14 games and ranked among the top players in various receiving categories in Conference USA.

Elijah Young’s Performance

Elijah Young had previously spent three seasons in the Southeastern Conference at Missouri before transferring to WKU to conclude his college career. In 2023, he led WKU in rushing with a total of 474 yards and three touchdowns while also contributing as a receiver. His performance continued to shine during the 2024 season; he started all 14 games and rushed for 883 yards and an additional three touchdowns, accumulating 1,267 all-purpose yards. Young’s impressive efforts earned him a spot on the Phil Steele Postseason All-Conference USA Second Team Offense for running backs after the 2024 season.

WKU Football Spring Showcase

As the 2025 season approaches, WKU Football recently concluded its spring practice with the Red & White Spring Showcase. This annual event featured a competitive display between the offense and defense, allowing players to demonstrate their skills ahead of the upcoming season. Quarterback Maverick McIvor stood out by throwing four touchdown passes, which earned him the title of Spring Offensive MVP. Defensive players Jaylen Lewis and Xavion “Tutu” Griffin both made notable interceptions during the showcase, showcasing the squad’s defensive strength.

In recognition of individual achievements, various team awards were presented. Marshall Jackson received the Al Almond Award, while Virgil Marshall was honored with the Darryl Drake Award, highlighting their contributions to the team’s efforts during the spring season.

Upcoming Season

WKU is scheduled to kick off the 2025 season against Sam Houston on August 23 at Houchens-Smith Stadium. As the program continues to produce NFL-caliber talent, anticipation builds for what lies ahead in the new season.
