WKU Football Players Earn Spots on C-USA Preseason Watch List

Bowling Green, KY – Western Kentucky University’s football team achieved a significant accolade as five of its players were recognized in the Conference USA Preseason Watch List for the upcoming 2025 season. The highlighted student-athletes include quarterback Maverick McIvor, offensive lineman Marshall Jackson, defensive back Demarko Williams, defensive end Harper Holloman, and punter Cole Maynard.

Maverick McIvor, who transferred to WKU from Abilene Christian University, made a remarkable impact during his previous three seasons, amassing an impressive total of 8,012 passing yards and 63 touchdowns. During his final year at Abilene Christian, McIvor excelled with 3,828 passing yards and 30 touchdowns, while maintaining a completion rate of approximately 62.5 percent. His efforts during the 2024 season saw him leading the Wildcats to the United Athletic Conference title and securing a place in the FCS Playoffs. Recognized for his outstanding performance, McIvor earned a spot on the Second Team All-American and was named to the All-UAC First Team as quarterback.

Marshall Jackson was a pivotal member of WKU’s offensive line, starting all 14 games during the 2024 season. His outstanding play helped the team achieve the status of having the top passing offense in Conference USA. Jackson received notable recognition, including selection to the All-Conference USA Second Team and the Phil Steele Postseason CUSA All-Conference Third Team. His performance contributed to a defense against sacks, with WKU finishing second in the conference by allowing an average of only one sack per game. His key defensive play included blocking a field goal attempt in the Famous Toastery Bowl, aiding in a significant comeback victory for the Hilltoppers.

Demarko Williams, who joined WKU after his stint at Ole Miss, played in 12 games with 11 starts during the 2024 season. He recorded 37 total tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, and nabbed 2 interceptions, showcasing his skills as a reliable defensive back. Williams previously participated in 17 games in his two seasons at Ole Miss, adding depth to the WKU defense.

Harper Holloman had a noteworthy first season at WKU, participating in eight games and earning recognition as the Spring Defensive MVP. His contributions included 9 total tackles and 1 tackle for loss, demonstrating his capabilities as a defensive end.

Lastly, punter Cole Maynard played a crucial role throughout the 2024 season, handling all 14 games for WKU. He executed 55 punts for 2,350 yards, averaging an impressive 42.7 yards per punt. Maynard delivered notable statistics, including nine punts over 50 yards, with a long of 60 yards, and 19 punts that landed inside the 20-yard line. His excellence earned him a spot on the 2024 Ray Guy Award Watchlist and the distinction of Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week for a standout game against Toledo.

With the 2025 season on the horizon, the Hilltoppers are set to kick off their campaign with a Week 0 game against Sam Houston on August 23, at Houchens-Smith Stadium. The game is particularly significant as it marks the start of the season, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
