Bowling Green, KY – WKU Football is gearing up for an exciting year with the announcement of the Red & White Spring Showcase set for April 12, 2025, at Houchens-Smith Stadium. The event, which starts at noon CT, is free for fans, providing an opportunity to see the new talent joining the Hilltoppers for the 2025 season.
The 2025 WKU football schedule features a total of 12 regular-season games, including six home matchups at the stadium. The Hilltoppers will begin their season with a home opener against Sam Houston on August 23, 2025, followed by another home game against North Alabama on August 30. They will then venture to face Toledo on September 6 before returning home to host Nevada on September 20 after a bye week.
Capping off the early part of the season, WKU will play away games at Missouri State on September 27 and Delaware on October 3. For the first time, the Hilltoppers will face North Alabama and Nevada. WKU will also return to familiar foes, with back-to-back Tuesday night games against FIU at home on October 14 and Louisiana Tech away on October 21. The November schedule includes vital matchups against New Mexico State on November 1 and Middle Tennessee on November 15. The team’s nonconference game against LSU is set for November 22 in Baton Rouge, with the regular season concluding against Jackson State on November 29.
The CUSA Championship Game is scheduled for December 5, 2025, at the home venue of the top-ranked team in the regular season. Notably, all October games will be played on weekday evenings, a part of the league’s ongoing “Weekday CUSA” format.
Historically, WKU holds a 2-1 record against Sam Houston and is set to meet North Alabama for the first time. The matchup against Toledo will only be the second between the programs after their encounter in 2024. WKU has enjoyed success against FIU, winning the last five matchups to bring their all-time record to 11-6. WKU faced LSU as SEC opponents last season, with the Tigers emerging victorious in both previous encounters.
On the coaching front, head coach Kevin O’Brien has been promoted to Tight Ends Coach as he enters his second season with the program. O’Brien previously served as the Assistant Offensive Line Coach and played a significant role in WKU’s successful 2024 season, which culminated in an 8-6 record.
Following the 2025 NFL Draft, WKU celebrated the success of its players as several signed with NFL teams as undrafted free agents. Kylan Guidry joined the Los Angeles Chargers, Kisean Johnson signed with the Baltimore Ravens, and Elijah Young joined the Kansas City Chiefs. Additionally, Upton Stout made headlines when he was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round, further solidifying WKU’s reputation in developing professional-level talent. Over the past four years, Stout’s selection marks the fifth WKU player drafted.
In terms of individual performance from the previous season, Guidry recorded 45 tackles, Johnson had an impressive 925 receiving yards along with seven touchdowns, and Young led the team with 883 rushing yards and a total of 1,267 all-purpose yards. These accomplishments highlight the depth and skill present within the WKU football program as they approach the 2025 season.
