Melissa Mayeux is a celebrated former Sun Belt Player of the Year, whose collegiate softball journey started at Miami Dade College before she transferred to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Over her three years with the Ragin’ Cajuns, she achieved a career batting average of .292, gathering 89 hits and hitting 15 home runs. Known for her versatility, Mayeux played seven different positions on the field, including all five infield positions, and concluded her collegiate career with an impressive .964 fielding percentage.

During her senior season in 2022, Mayeux exhibited outstanding performance, leading her team with a batting average of .336, accumulating 35 runs, 42 hits, 12 doubles, 6 home runs, 29 RBIs, and a notable .989 fielding percentage. Her earlier years at Miami Dade College were marked by success as well; she was named a first-team All-Southern Conference selection in her freshman year, boasting a .377 batting average, 8 home runs, 15 doubles, 31 RBIs, and a .715 slugging percentage. As a sophomore, she replicated her all-conference honors with a .431 batting average, 59 RBIs, and 32 extra-base hits.

Originally from Le Barcares, France, Mayeux also made her mark on an international level, representing the French U-18 Junior National baseball team. At the age of 14, she was accepted into one of only two baseball academies in France, later becoming the first woman eligible for an MLB contract, as she was added to Major League Baseball’s International Registration List.

After completing her collegiate career, Mayeux gained further coaching experience serving as an assistant coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Northwestern State. Her role at WKU Softball is anticipated to bring elevated skills to the program, particularly as the team comes off its fifth consecutive 30-win season, finishing 2025 with a record of 30-21 and a 14-10 mark in Conference USA play.

This past season, WKU Softball ranked second in the conference, only narrowly trailing behind Liberty. For the 2026 season, the team has also strengthened its roster with two transfers and three freshmen. Alongside this coaching development, the WKU Softball Complex, which was built in conjunction with the soccer field, is part of a $1.2 million development aimed at enhancing the team’s facilities.
