Let’s Meet the Honorees!
First up, we have Carlos D’Angelo Bailey, a proud graduate of Warren Central High School, Class of 1994. Carlos is not just any attorney; he’s a skilled professional focusing on criminal law and civil rights. Since becoming a Bowling Green city commissioner in 2021, he’s made history as the second African American to step into this vital role. His contributions haven’t gone unnoticed, winning several awards, including the Bowling Green Trailblazer Award.
Next is the determined Ginger Appling Cleary, a graduate from Warren East High School in 1984. Over the last 30 years, she has successfully run her own State Farm insurance agency in Bowling Green! Her impressive accolades include the Crystal Excellence and President’s Club awards, but her heart lies in community service, actively participating in local boards like Junior Achievement.
Then we have Stan England, a standout member of the Warren County High School Class of 1964. A knee-deep advocate for children, Stan has an amazing history as the first chief professional officer of the 8th Judicial District Pretrial Services Program. His dedication to health and recreation in the community earns him a well-deserved spot in the spotlight!
Next on the list is the impressive Dr. Kellye S. Joiner, DVM, PhD. A Greenwood High School graduate of 1991, Dr. Joiner is an associate professor at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She has racked up a series of teaching awards and even developed a certified training program in poultry pathology. Talk about a game-changer!
Let’s not forget entrepreneur extraordinaire, Joshua M. Poling. A 2004 Greenwood High alumnus, Joshua is the co-owner of popular local eateries Home Cafe & Marketplace and Hickory and Oak. Not only does he whip up delicious food, but he’s also heavily involved in community efforts, including organizing donations for tornado victims. Plus, he recently expanded the Broadbent B&B Foods business nationally!
Also to be honored is Jackie Strode, known for having served 23 years as Warren County Jailer and another 21 years as a Kentucky State Police trooper. With such extensive service, he’s been actively participating in countless community organizations, earning him multiple awards including the esteemed Kentucky Jailer of the Year title.
The next honoree, Melanie Scott Watts, graduated from Warren Central High School in 1988. A retired officer and former deputy chief with the Bowling Green Police Department, she now serves as the regional executive director at Lifeskills in Bowling Green. Her tireless advocacy for vulnerable children shines brightly in our community.
Another worthy mention is Steven Allen Wheeler, who graduated from Alvaton High School in 1966. After making waves at J.C. Holland & Company, he became the CFO at Chandler Real Estate in 2022. Steven’s commitment over the past 50 years to volunteerism and civic activities demonstrates a stellar career dedicated to helping others.
Last but not least, we honor Kerry T. Young, a proud graduate of Warren East High School class of 1983. Having served on the Warren County Public Schools Board of Education from 2007 to 2022, Kerry played an integral role in overseeing significant growth and infrastructure development in the district. His community service extends to church activities and youth camps that continue nurturing the next generation!
