Spartanburg, SC – The Hub City Spartanburgers claimed a decisive victory on Sunday, defeating the Bowling Green Hot Rods 8-2 in the final game of their series. This win improved the Spartanburgers’ overall record to 32-36 and allowed them to end the series with a 1-2 record against the Hot Rods, who now sit at 36-31 overall and 2-1 in the series.

Starting pitcher Jose Gonzalez showcased an impressive performance for Hub City, effectively shutting out the Hot Rods for six innings while only allowing three hits. The Spartanburgers delivered a strong offensive output, recording a total of 13 hits in the game, with a surge of six of those hits occurring in the final two innings.

The match began with an early lead for Hub City when Quincy Scott hit a solo home run in the third inning. This marked Scott’s third home run of the season, putting the Spartanburgers on the board at 1-0. Despite a solid start, the Hot Rods fought back, even taking the lead in the seventh inning. Blake Robertson’s two-run double gave Bowling Green a temporary advantage with a score of 2-1.

Hub City quickly responded in the eighth inning. The rally started with a leadoff double from Luis Marquez. Anthony Gutierrez followed up with a clutch two-run double, scoring both Marquez and Figuereo, elevating Hub City’s score to 3-2. The Spartanburgers continued their momentum as Casey Cook added an RBI single, extending the lead to 4-2.

In a thunderous finish, Hub City loaded the bases in the ninth inning, leading to Dylan Dreiling hitting a grand slam. This powerful hit secured an 8-2 lead for the Spartanburgers, solidifying their victory. Joey Danielson concluded the game for the Spartanburgers by retiring all three batters faced in the ninth inning.

Adonis Villavicencio was awarded the win for Hub City, boosting his record to 2-0 for the season, while Adam Boucher recorded the loss for Bowling Green, marking his record at 2-1.

This win is a notable accomplishment for the Hub City Spartanburgers, who are currently in their inaugural season as the High-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. As the team looks to build on this victory, they are set to return home for a highly anticipated six-game series against the Aberdeen IronBirds, the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The first game of this new series is slated for Tuesday at 11:05 a.m. ET, coinciding with Youth Camp Day.

The Spartanburgers will aim to sustain their winning momentum as they continue their season, hoping to engage the local community and further enhance their performance on the field.
