Meanwhile, Greenwood aims to rebound against Bowling Green next week.

Bowling Green, KY – The South Warren softball team has clinched the top seed in the District 14 Tournament after a resounding 14-2 victory over Greenwood in a five-inning game held at South Warren High School on Thursday. This decisive win pushes South Warren’s overall record to 21-2 and marks an impressive 5-0 record within the district.

Demonstrating their offensive prowess, South Warren amassed a total of ten hits during the game, which included three home runs. This triumph signifies the eighth consecutive game in which the team has scored ten or more runs, showcasing their ability to maintain pressure on opposing teams. Key players in the victory included McLaine Hudson, who shone with two home runs and four RBIs, and Hayden Holloway, who also contributed a home run and an equal number of RBIs. Keegan Pruitt aided the team’s performance with two hits, while Kinleigh Russell secured an additional two RBIs.

The pitching performance from Emme Goss was efficient, as she allowed only two runs and recorded two strikeouts while giving up five hits, further solidifying South Warren’s dominance. With this current momentum, the team is now gearing up for the Softball Catholic Classic, scheduled to take place on Saturday at Jack C. Fisher Park in Owensboro. In the classic, South Warren will face Henderson County at 9 a.m. followed by a matchup against Tecumseh, Indiana at 10:30 a.m.

In contrast, Greenwood’s overall record stands at 23-7, with a 3-2 mark in District 14. The team is looking to bounce back as they prepare to face Bowling Green at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Another recent notable performance in District 14 included Bowling Green’s impressive 17-0 defeat of Warren Central, where pitcher Hadley Morrison delivered a one-hitter and struck out 13 batters. JaNyah Perkins emerged as a significant contributor with four hits and four RBIs for Bowling Green, which holds an overall record of 13-10 and a district record of 2-3.

In other district matchups, Edmonson County edged out Franklin-Simpson 13-12, with Julie Norris leading the charge with two hits and four RBIs. Franklin-Simpson’s overall record now stands at 11-13. Bowling Green is set to host Greenwood on Monday at 6 p.m., while the Lady Dragons of Warren Central will meet Metcalfe County at 5:30 p.m. on the same day.

South Warren’s recent success can be attributed to their exceptional hitting and pitching performances, which have propelled them to an 11-game home winning streak. The Spartans have averaged a formidable 11.47 runs per game, boasting a team batting average of .431. On the mound, South Warren’s pitching staff holds the fifth-ranked earned run average of 1.65.

In terms of historical context, South Warren has not only been dominant this season, but they have also consistently reached the 4th Region finals since 2015, claiming the tournament championship four times. This ongoing success is reflective of both their hard work and the skill level within the program, as evidenced by multiple players committing to NCAA Division I schools.

Additionally, McLaine Hudson holds the state record for hits in a single season, tallying an unprecedented 93 hits last year. She is currently on pace to break the career hits mark, further highlighting the talent in the South Warren lineup.
