Born on November 19, 1934, in Monroe County, KY, Luella was the daughter of the late Edna (England) and Carlos Rich. Over the course of her life, she became a dedicated mother and a cherished friend to many, known for her caring nature and exceptional skills in sewing, quilting, and cooking.
Luella married Charlie McMillan on June 12, 1950. The couple enjoyed many years together until Charlie’s untimely passing on June 19, 1978. Throughout her life, Luella remained devoted to her family, including their three children: Wanda Jones and her husband, Ricky, of Bowling Green, KY; Bonita Harper of Edmonton, KY; and Billy Joe McMillan and his wife, Meloney, of Louisville, KY.
In addition to her children, Luella is survived by six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, who will carry on her memory. She also leaves behind two sisters, Brenda Halcomb and her husband, Roger, of Bowling Green, KY; Lou McElroy of Bowling Green, KY; a brother, Robert Rich and his wife, Pam, of Bowling Green, KY; as well as a sister-in-law, Martha Rich, of Scottsville, KY. Luella was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn McMillan; a son, Charles Tim McMillan; and two brothers, James W. “Sonny” Rich and Bill Rich, along with a brother-in-law, Darrell McElroy.
Luella was an active member of Old Zion’s Heritage Way Baptist Church, demonstrating her faith through her service and connections with the community. In her professional life, she worked at the KEY Sewing Factory and later at Red Kap Sewing Factory, allowing her to channel her passion for sewing into her career. She also dedicated time as a caregiver, supporting families in times of need.
Funeral services for Luella McMillan are scheduled for 12:00 noon on Wednesday, July 23rd, at Yokley Trible Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, KY. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation is open to the public on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Luella’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, a cause close to her heart.
