Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Celebrates National Park and Rec Month with Unique Activities and Community Engagement

Bowling Green is gearing up to celebrate National Park and Rec Month this July with a variety of exciting activities and engagement opportunities for residents. The local Parks and Recreation department is enthusiastic about bringing the community together under this year’s theme, “Build Together, Play Together.”

In a creative twist, Meltdown will introduce a new ice cream flavor named “Treat Yo Self” as part of the festivities. This initiative aims to amplify the joy of community engagement and highlight the importance of enjoying local recreational spaces during the month-long celebration.

The Parks and Recreation staff are profoundly grateful for the community’s continued support of parks and recreational opportunities. The department is conducting a community survey to gather valuable feedback regarding local parks, activities, and facilities. This feedback will assist in formulating a comprehensive “Master Plan” that aims to identify community needs and address gaps in recreational services.

Cameron Levis, the Recreation Division Manager for Parks and Recreation, has noted that the insights gained from the survey are crucial for understanding the preferences and needs of Bowling Green’s residents. The department anticipates that survey results will help prioritize community needs over the next decade, ensuring that recreational offerings align with the desires of the populace.

Preliminary survey results reflect a robust interest among residents in passive recreational opportunities, including trails and jogging spaces. Parks Planner Haley Parrett is currently analyzing these results and comparing Bowling Green’s facilities with those of other communities to derive improvement ideas and best practices.

One of the major highlights of National Park and Rec Month in Bowling Green is the 64th annual Pet Show, which is set to take place on July 9 at City Park, starting at 7 p.m. In the case of inclement weather, a rain date is scheduled for July 16 at 7 p.m.

All legal pets are invited to participate in the Pet Show, which includes a variety of entertaining categories such as Funniest Pet Name, Best Dressed Pet, Cutest Boy Dog, and more. Participants are advised to arrive at least 15 minutes early for registration to ensure a smooth check-in process.
