Bowling Green – Darris Allen, a 42-year-old man from Bowling Green, has been charged with murder by complicity in connection with the fatal shooting of his business partner, Robert Dark, 39, on June 25. The charges were filed in a criminal complaint by the Commonwealth of Kentucky on June 27, asserting that Allen intended to promote or facilitate Dark’s murder.
Allen and Dark had been business partners, along with several others, in a local restaurant that has recently closed. According to Detective Kyle Scharlow of the Bowling Green Police Department, investigations revealed that Allen engaged in a conspiracy with another individual to plan and execute the shooting that resulted in Dark’s death.
Allen was arrested on June 28 and subsequently booked into the Warren County Jail on June 30, where he remains on a bond set at $500,000.
Authorities were alerted to the incident at Martin Auto Mart shortly after noon on June 25. The initial caller reported to police that they found Dark slumped over in his office chair, visibly injured with a gunshot wound in his arm. The last known communication with Dark occurred around 11:34 a.m. on the same day.
Upon police arrival, they discovered Dark suffering from multiple upper body gunshot wounds. The emergency medical services on the scene were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The medical examiner’s preliminary findings confirmed that Dark sustained several gunshot wounds primarily to his upper body, which contributed to his death. Surveillance footage from the vicinity of the shooting revealed a suspect arriving in a distinctive silver 2014 Cadillac. The vehicle, characterized by its chrome trim and multi-spoke wheels, was seen leaving the area shortly after the incident.
The Cadillac is registered to a woman, the mother of children with Allen. She informed investigators that she had lent the vehicle to someone related to Allen. Further investigation led police to locate another vehicle, identified as a dark-colored SUV believed to be a Chevrolet Suburban, also associated with Allen. This SUV was observed parked in a nearby driveway and was seen departing the location around the same time as the Cadillac.
To support their investigation, officers obtained a search warrant for the Cadillac, which was then seized for processing at the Bowling Green Police Department headquarters. Inside the vehicle, they discovered snacks and a rotisserie chicken container, which were linked to a purchase made at Crossroads IGA gas station prior to the shooting.
Video footage from the gas station showed the Cadillac at the pumps around 10:30 a.m. on June 25. A man exited the car and made purchases that matched the items found in the car after the shooting. The Cadillac left the gas station towards Broadway at around 10:40 a.m., and further video showed the vehicle surveilling Martin Auto Mart just before the shooting occurred.
At approximately 11:44 a.m., the surveillance footage captured the Cadillac stopping, allowing a man to exit from the passenger side and enter Martin Auto Mart. Shortly after, eight gunshots were heard, and the man was seen exiting the business before returning to the Cadillac, which then drove away from the scene.
The Bowling Green Police Department is actively pursuing additional information and eyewitnesses related to this incident. They are encouraging anyone with knowledge of the events surrounding the shooting or the suspects to come forward.
