Franklin, Ky. — Dr. Curry Watkins Davis, Jr., an esteemed minister and leader in the Franklin community, passed away at the age of 80 on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, Ky. His contributions to the community and ministry are deeply felt and remembered by many.

Born on July 27, 1945, in Childersburg, Ala., Dr. Davis was the son of Curry Watkins Davis, Sr. and Nell Davis. He pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of California Santa Barbara and proudly served his country in the Air Force.

Dr. Davis was particularly passionate about education, earning a Master of Divinity and a Doctorate of Theology from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga. Following in his father’s footsteps, he was ordained as a minister in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. Throughout his distinguished career, he pastored congregations across several states, including Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Florida, and Tennessee.

Beyond his pastoral duties, Dr. Davis dedicated himself to various leadership roles within the community. He served as the past director of Franklin-Simpson Good Samaritan and was the current president of the Franklin Ministerial Association. Additionally, he held the position of board president of Live the Proof. His commitment to service also extended to volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and being active in the Western Kentucky Presbytery and the Simpson County Democratic Party.

Dr. Davis had a fervent desire to help others and was known as a lifelong learner. In his personal life, he enjoyed reading, gardening, and farming. He is remembered with love by his survivors, including his spouse of 30 years, Marcella Whitfield Davis, and his four children: Fletcher Davis and Vivian Davis from Rome, Ga., Zach Adamson (Elizabeth) of Bowling Green, Ky., and Max DeCrow (Adam) of Arlington, Tenn. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Rebekah Adamson, Lillie Adamson, Thea Chesley, Maddox DeCrow, and Emmalynn DeCrow, along with two sisters, Gwen Sloop and Grace Naze, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service honoring Dr. Davis is scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Franklin Presbyterian Church, located at 201 N. College Street in Franklin, Ky. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on the same day. Those wishing to express sympathy may consider donating to Franklin Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory in Franklin, Ky.
