Bowling Green, KY – Western Kentucky University (WKU) has recognized Camryn Davis as the first Player of the Week for the 2025-2026 athletic season following an impressive performance on the field. Davis, a midfielder for the WKU women’s soccer team, scored a hat-trick during a remarkable 10-0 victory over Rio Grande, with all three of her goals recorded back-to-back within the first 12 minutes of the match. This victory and performance marked the first three goals of her collegiate career.

Davis is in her second year at WKU and is a transfer from Jacksonville State University. Last season, she participated in 15 games, but only managed to record five shots in total. Now, her swift transition into the team’s offensive play has shone a light on her potential as a key player moving forward.

Following the victory against Rio Grande, the WKU women’s soccer team will host their home opener against Jackson State on Thursday night, eager to maintain their momentum and build on Davis’s stellar performance.

Additionally, WKU’s football program has also made headlines, as kicker Lucas Carneiro garnered the title of Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week for the third time this fall. Carneiro, who was previously named the CUSA Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year, achieved this accolade following his outstanding performance in a recent game where he successfully made all four of his field goal attempts, contributing significantly to a 19-17 victory over Jacksonville State.

In that game, Carneiro completed a remarkable 50-yard field goal with only three seconds left on the clock, securing WKU’s position in the upcoming CUSA Championship Game scheduled for December 6 at AmFirst Stadium in Jacksonville, Alabama. He is currently boasting a perfect record this season, having made five field goals from beyond 50 yards out and achieving an overall record of 15 out of 16 for field goal attempts. In addition, Carneiro holds a flawless PAT completion rate of 39-for-39, alongside a record for consecutive field goals made with his current streak standing at 15. 

The WKU athletics department has received a total of seven Player of the Week awards this season across various sports, including special teams, defensive, and offensive honors.

On the basketball front, Don McHenry from the WKU Men’s Basketball team has been named the Conference USA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. McHenry led the team through a successful week with a 2-0 record, extending their winning streak to four games. He delivered a standout performance with a season-high 29 points during an overtime win against Murray State and contributed 18 points in a subsequent victory against Tennessee State. McHenry has been pivotal to the team’s success, averaging 16.5 points per game, and is currently leading with 20 made three-pointers and ranking fourth in CUSA for total steals.
