Born on March 11, 1936, to the late George and Bessie Perdue West, Rose grew up in a supportive family environment that nurtured her compassionate nature. She pursued education at the Bowling Green Business University, equipping herself with skills that would later aid her in various aspects of her life.
Rose was a longtime member of the Lost River Church of Christ, where her devotion to God significantly influenced her life’s mission to love and befriend others. Known for her humble and unassuming demeanor, she often played a supportive role in her community, opting to work behind the scenes rather than seeking the spotlight. Her contributions were viewed as vital to those around her, with her mother-in-law noting her as a “great help” to her husband throughout their 68 years of marriage.
Family was central to Rose’s identity. She is survived by two children, Sheryl Lynn Cook Borders, married to Bill, and Paul Kelly Cook, married to Julie. Rose also cherished her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, leaving behind a legacy that includes five grandchildren: William Sterling Borders, Cole Stuart Borders, James Lincoln Cook, Paul Benjamin Cook, and Elizabeth Caleigh Cook, as well as ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Close friends of Rose, including her longtime friend Marie Bean, have recognized her modesty and kindness, embodying the qualities that made her stand out in her community. Her gentle spirit and generous heart had a lasting impression on all who came into contact with her, fostering a sense of warmth and care that will be remembered long after her passing.
Visitation services for Rose Cook will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 3 until 6 p.m., and again on Monday, July 14, from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at the J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. on July 14 at the same location. Rose will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Southern Kentucky and/or Florida College, honoring Rose’s legacy of service and love.
