Franklin, Kentucky – A tragic vehicle collision at an intersection in Allen County has resulted in the death of a 72-year-old woman. The incident occurred on Saturday morning at approximately 6 a.m. at the intersection of Clare Road and Franklin Road.

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) were called to the scene after the Allen County Sheriff’s Office reported the crash. The victim has been identified as Carolyn Brandon, a resident of Franklin, Kentucky. According to initial investigations, Brandon was operating a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado, traveling eastbound on Clare Road.

As she attempted to make a left turn onto Franklin Road, her vehicle collided with a westbound 2020 Toyota Camry, a vehicle driven by Brendan Ploughe, 26, from Scottsville, Kentucky. Following the impact, Brandon was transported to Franklin Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

In addition to the fatality, a passenger in Brandon’s vehicle, Jonathan Blackman, was also injured and taken to Greenview Regional Hospital. Blackman is reported to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Similarly, Ploughe, the driver of the Toyota Camry, was transported to Bowling Green Medical Center, where he received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries as well.

The collision highlights the dangers that can occur at busy intersections and the importance of cautious driving, especially when making turns. KSP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and the preliminary findings indicate that the situation escalated rapidly, resulting in tragic consequences for those involved.

Intersections are often sites of significant traffic incidents, especially when visibility is compromised or the timing of light changes does not favor turning vehicles. Authorities encourage drivers to adhere to traffic laws and remain vigilant while navigating through these potentially hazardous areas.

The community of Franklin is mourning the loss of a long-time resident, and this incident serves as a somber reminder of the potential dangers on roadways. Residents are urged to prioritize safe driving practices to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

More information regarding the investigation by the Kentucky State Police will be released as it becomes available. Community members are recommended to stay updated on road safety and best practices while driving to ensure the safety of all road users.
