Bowling Green, KY — Motorists in Kentucky’s Transportation Cabinet District 3 should prepare for significant traffic disruptions as multiple construction projects are set to alter travel patterns from June 8 to June 13, 2025. These projects include important bridge restorations, highway improvements, and roadway resurfacing activities that will affect traffic flow and safety.
One of the largest undertakings is the bridge restoration project on I-165 over the Green River in Butler County, which has commenced and is expected to continue until the fall of 2026. This project entails long-term lane closures and adjustments to traffic patterns, potentially causing delays for those traveling along this major route.
In addition, the Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) at I-165 Exit 7, also known as the U.S. 231 Morgantown Road, is transforming the interchange into a Double Crossover Diamond layout. During this construction phase, U.S. 231 will remain accessible; however, traffic patterns will change with a reduced speed limit of 35 mph in the work zone. Motorists are advised to stay alert as one lane will be closed in each direction on U.S. 231, with the traffic impacts extending northward to Veterans Memorial Highway. This project is anticipated to complete later this fall.
Other significant paving operations are scheduled across District 3, particularly affecting countries such as Allen, Barren, Logan, and Monroe. In Allen County, paving on KY 1533 (from mile points 2.7 to 5.7) is expected to begin shortly, bringing possible lane closures.
Barren County is experiencing ongoing work on U.S. 68, focusing on drainage improvements through mile points 0.0 to 10.0. Resurfacing works are also planned for KY 1318 (mile points 3.3 to 6.4), KY 2131 (mile points 2.2 to 4.0), and KY 68 (mile points 0 to 10). Each of these roadways is likely to see lane closures.
In Butler County, resurfacing operations on KY 3205 (from mile points 0 to 3) and KY 411 (from mile points 0 to 4) are set to begin soon, leading to further lane restrictions. Edmonson County will also see work on KY 238 (mile points 7 to 12.1), affecting traffic with expected lane closures.
Logan County has multiple projects lined up, with paving operations starting this week on KY 1151 (from mile points 4 to 9) and subsequent paving operations planned for KY 73 (post-completion of KY 1151 work) as well as on KY 2376 (spanning from 0 to 1.5 miles and 1.5 to 4.7 miles). Each of these projects will result in lane closures.
In Monroe County, a long-term closure is in effect on KY 678 at Peter Creek due to ongoing bridge replacement work, with the detour expected to last until July. Meanwhile, paving operations on KY 87 (mile points 1 to 4) are anticipated to begin this week, impacting traffic patterns with possible lane closures.
In Warren County, the next phase of roadway widening along U.S. 31-W is currently underway. Although this work will mainly occur away from the road, minimal traffic impacts are expected. Other improvement projects on KY 185 are also ongoing with similar limited traffic disruptions.
Overall, the roadway resurfacing on KY 961 is slated to commence soon, promising lane closures as well. Near completion, paving on U.S. 231 Scottsville Road will finish soon, with crews now concentrating on the essential striping work. Continuous resurfacing operations are being conducted on KY 1402 Porter Pike and KY 626 (each experiencing lane closures from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) while work on KY 2631 is likely to persist.
As these projects progress, authorities encourage all drivers to exercise caution and plan their routes accordingly to ensure safety during this busy construction season.
