Bowling Green, KY is set to host its third annual Duncan Hines Days from June 1 to June 8, 2025. This week-long celebration is dedicated to honoring the culinary legacy of Duncan Hines, a Bowling Green native who became an influential figure in the world of food recommendations. The festivities aim to bring the community together and will feature a variety of free events accessible to people of all ages.

The event serves as a revival of a shorter Duncan Hines festival that took place two decades ago, reflecting the community’s commitment to celebrating its local heritage. Telia Butler, the city’s downtown development coordinator, has overseen the planning of this year’s activities, which promise to engage participants and highlight the region’s culinary delights.

New Activities for 2025

This year’s lineup includes several exciting new activities. The Fountain Square Nostalgic Block Party kicks off the celebrations on Sunday, June 1, from 1 PM to 3 PM, offering carnival-style foods, live music, games, and inflatables. On Monday, June 2, there will be free screenings of the classic movie “9-to-5” at the Capitol Theater at 2:30 PM and again at 6:30 PM, including a themed Dolly Trolley for attendees to enjoy a red-carpet experience.

Additional new features this year include a Pickleball Palooza at Roland Bland Park and a bike ride and dine event hosted by BikeWalkBG, aimed at promoting active lifestyles and community engagement.

Returning Events

Alongside the new events, several favorites from previous years will return to amplify the celebration. A vintage car show, the Summer Stroll and Roll Parade, scavenger hunts, and Hines-themed tours at the Historic RailPark and Train Depot will all be part of the festivities. Live music performances will also grace the event, featuring local entertainers. Highlights include a tribute concert dedicated to Dolly Parton on Friday and the Eats and Beats Music Fest on Saturday, which will be headlined by local rock band The Josephines.

Community Impact

This year, over 6,000 cases of cake mixes and frostings have been delivered to Bowling Green in connection with the event, including a special cake mix inspired by Dolly Parton. The Duncan Hines Days celebration is designed not only to commemorate the hometown hero but also to foster a sense of community pride and unity.

Duncan Hines gained fame after publishing “Adventures in Good Eating” in 1936, a travel guide focused on recommending clean and safe dining and lodging options across the United States. His legacy lives on through this event, which combines culinary experiences with a nostalgic flair that resonates with attendees of all ages.

Overall, Duncan Hines Days aims to provide engaging programs that encourage community involvement, celebrate the cultural heritage of Bowling Green, and offer enjoyable experiences for residents and visitors alike. As the event approaches, the anticipation continues to build for another successful celebration in honor of this local legend.
