Seattle – Sedrick T. Stevenson, a 28-year-old inmate, escaped custody during a transport to Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Sunday at approximately 11 a.m. The incident occurred at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport while he was in the check-in process for a flight.

While at the airport, Stevenson fled from the ticket counter and managed to board a northbound light rail train, evading contract agents who attempted to apprehend him. Following the escape, authorities located him on surveillance footage boarding the light rail, and Sound Transit security later spotted him exiting at Capitol Hill station.

Stevenson is wanted on two active warrants. The first warrant is related to multiple charges, including:

  • First-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument
  • Third-degree assault on a police officer or probation officer
  • Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)
  • Trafficking in marijuana (less than 8 ounces, first offense)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Resisting arrest
  • Third-degree criminal mischief
  • Possession of an open alcohol beverage container in a motor vehicle

These charges stem from incidents dating back to July 2020. The second warrant is related to charges of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, also for failing to appear in court.

After confirming his escape, police conducted extensive searches in the baggage claim area and various locations within the airport, but Stevenson remained at large. Authorities have now added a charge of escape in the second degree to his record. Despite the urgency of the search, travel operations at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport were not affected by the incident.

Ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies will continue as they search for Stevenson to ensure public safety and apprehend the fugitive. The Port of Seattle Police and local law enforcement are urging anyone with any relevant information regarding his whereabouts to come forward.

Stevenson’s escape has raised questions about security protocols during inmate transport, particularly in busy public spaces such as airports. The incident highlights the challenges authorities face in managing dangerous individuals while ensuring the safety of the general public.

Authorities ask the public to stay vigilant and report any sightings of Stevenson as they work to recapture him. As of now, the manhunt continues, and he remains a person of interest in this ongoing investigation.
